2024 Adelaide Fringe

We couldn’t be happier with our biggest and most successful Adelaide Fringe season and receiving a positive response from our supportive community, artists and audiences.

It started back in August of 2023 when we were overcome with the volume of expressions of interests we were receiving. We had a whooping 96 applicants and could only program 28 companies. It was then that we knew the 2024 Adelaide Fringe was going to be massive. And massive it was!

With two theatres running simultaneously with one another, we had a perfect mix of international, national and local shows with a strong focus on theatre, physical theatre and visual arts. We were so thrilled with our programming this year, it was a sublime selection of exceptional companies and artists, which was highlighted in the awards received, attendance and reviews.

During our Fringe season we were able to:

•   support 28 local, national and international productions

•   present 137 performances (26 of those to a sold-out audience)

•   host 5 Fringe award winning performances

•   deliver Little VIC LANE with over 250 people attending the event

•    nurture 318 artists

•    employ 13 staff

•    attract 36 volunteers

•    achieve our highest ever record with 7,057 people attending the theatre

Artists and companies received outstanding responses from audiences and reviewers and won Fringe Awards including:

•   Week 4 Best Dance: That’s Amore by Alchemy Dance Collective

•   Week 4 Cultural Diversity: Caught In Between by Danielle Lim

•   Holden Street Award: Trail’s End by Jannali Jones

•   Emerging Artist Award: Kate Burgess : That’s Amore by Alchemy Dance Collective

•   Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Award: Trail’s End by Jannali Jones

Positive feedback from artists and audiences is consistent with many agreeing we are creating a ‘trusting, transparent, welcoming and supportive venue.’ This reinforces the right path we are on and makes us very proud of our achievements.

Art that walks OFF The walls led by our Artists in Residence, Aggie Stav, Shani Engelbrecht and Niccy Pallant had many audiences commenting on the entrance and artistic vibe created in the laneway and throughout the venue with one punter commenting You have transformed this space. It feels like you’re in Melbourne or Edinburgh.’

Reviewer Alby Grace from Dark Stories commenting ‘It’s absolutely fantastic to sit in a large, air-conditioned theatre with elegant lighting and generous stage to watch a piece of excellent naturalistic performance. Kudos to Simmy and Chris for their wonderful venue.’

The consistent positive feedback we have and are still receiving from our artists and audiences is amazing with many saying the same thing about trust, transparency and a welcoming and supportive venue.’ This tells us we are doing something very right!

Goodwood Theatre & Studios are grateful to participate in an authentic arts festival like the Adelaide Fringe. Generous assistance through the Fringe Fund has helped us to create a vibrant, inclusive and accessible venue where diverse artists feel encouraged to develop and share bold and exciting new work.

“The support we have received has increased visibility, visitation and vibrancy to our arts venue and created positive opportunity for community connection, cross-pollination and momentum for future partnerships and collaborations with local, national and international artists.”

Goodwood Theatre & Studios Artistic Director

THANK YOU

It’s the team effort that makes this event so powerful. We have all worked incredibly hard in the lead up and throughout the festival and none of this would have been possible without the commitment and passion of our staff, volunteers, artists, neighbours and community.

It was an enjoyable and relatively stress-free Fringe for us and all because of you. We appreciate and value your energy and commitment immensely!

Sincere thanks to our wonderful Neighbours for working with us once again to make this event the success that it was and supportive local businesses Early Learning Australia, Eggless Desserts, Pizza Pizzaz, The Suburban Brew, Ritt Watchmann Accountant, Capri Cinemas, Gingers, Korea Restaurant, The Physio Studio and Goodwood Books.

Our Sponsors and Partners City of Unley, Goodwood Road Associations, Adelaide Fringe Fund, Arts Unlimited, Adelaide Fringe Foundation, Adelaide Fringe Donors Circle, Novatech Creative Event Technology, Coriole Wines, Inventure Partners, Suburban Brew, Padan Printer, The Goody & Grid Marketing.

Big thanks to Heather Croall and the Adelaide Fringe Team for all your tireless work, without which none of this would even happen!

To every single one of you who attended our venue or any venue for that matter. Who showed support to artists by buying a ticket and backing their event. We honestly could not do it without YOU and hope you can continue to nurture our wonderful arts community.

Special thanks to two of our most visited audience members Chris & Amanda who throughout the season attended 11 performances in our venue. We appreciate your devotion to the arts and supporting local artists and look forward to seeing more of you in the future.

OUR CUP IS FULL

We hope you enjoyed the 2024 Adelaide Fringe season, we certainly did!

Please let us know if you have any feedback. We always love to hear from you!
